It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Coe Cairnes, who passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 24, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Nov.19, 1937, in Selma, Alabama to Katherine and Edward Coe. Margaret was a graduate of Auburn University, and a sister of Chi- Omega sorority. She enjoyed a lengthy civil service career in contracting at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where she resided. Margaret was a member of the University Presbyterian Church, where her roles were many, in both leadership and supporting roles. She served her Presbyterian community with both love and devotion. In retirement, Margaret enjoyed the companionship of good friends, often traveling with them to many destinations the world over. She enjoyed reading and debating interesting and varied topics. Mentoring and volunteering were integral to her sense of empathy and compassion. She was a loving wife, Mother, and friend, cherished for her warm smile and kind heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lewis Wade Cairnes. Margaret is survived by her children, Jeffrey Wade Cairnes and Christiana Lyn Cairnes, and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret leaves behind a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Memorial Service will held Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. at University Presbyterian Church on 300 Bushnell Avenue.
