Our opinion: We’re happy Sewell’s pleased with Disaster Recovery progress

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell held a press conference to discuss the latest developments in the ongoing recovery process following the January 12 tornado.

Sewell was joined Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, Selma Housing Authority (SHA)Resident Services Director Beverly Blackmon, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) State Director Nivory Gordon Jr., Dr. Corey Wiggins, Delta Regional Authority federal co-chairman, Small Business Association’s (SBA) Michael Lampton and Karen Stafford of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at the press conference.

We were glad to hear that Sewell is pleased with progress in recovering, but we still have work to do.

“It takes hard work and dedication, not just from federal partners, but from local, state and federal, as well as our non-profits and our faith-based organizations,” Sewell said.

Perkins and Nunn both praised Sewell for getting the help needed from the Federal Government, especially from President Joe Biden.

We enjoyed seeing Sewell standing alongside Perkins and Nunn in City Hall, supporting the area’s recovery from the tornado. Political parties aside, we need all the help we can get to rebuild Selma and Dallas County back stronger than ever.
