A beautiful and powerful passage of hope is found in Isaiah chapter 40. Note in verse 28, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord. The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. “

One of the most beautiful, magnificent and powerful things that I have ever seen is an eagle in flight. If we wait on the Lord, we can mount up with wings like eagles. What does it mean to wait on the Lord?

First of all, to wait on the Lord means to put our trust in Him. Isaiah asks if we don’t understand that God is never weary. He is never too tired to care and to provide help to His people.

Secondly, to wait on the Lord is to have patience and to understand that He operates on His time, not ours. We like instant gratification; we want things now. The Lord’s timetable may be different.

Thirdly, to wait on the Lord means to understand that He knows what is best, and we do not. We tend to think we know the answers. But God does know the answers. We need to depend upon Him, to say, like Jesus did, “Your will be done, and not mine.”

The blessing is that when we wait on the Lord, we can have strength, hope, and we can soar as on the wings of an eagle.
