Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. and the Selma City Council agreed to extend their legal battle over the budget for two more months.
Dallas County Circuit Court Judge Marvin Wiggins is presiding over the case. He ordered both sides to come up with an agreement by October 1.
Several months ago, Perkins filed suit against the city council over a version of the budget that passed earlier in the year. The lawsuit filed was in response to a budget the council passed back in March, defunding several departments.
Perkins said at the recent council meeting that the lines of communication have improved between the two sides.
Council President Billy Young also said he is optimistic both sides can work out a balanced budget.
