Blackbelt Benefit Group hosted Youth Bike Rack installation

The Blackbelt Benefit Group hosted a successful Youth Bike Rack installation last weekend.

Youth volunteers from the Jonathan Daniels Youth Pilgrimage from the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama assisted the BBG with building a new bike workstation. 

Josh Wilkerson, President of Blackbelt Benefit Group, thanked the City of Selma for allowing the event to take place, Cosb-Carmichael, Trustmark Bank, Bush Hog, Henry Brick, Rhaglan Group (St. James Hotel), Arts Revive all were sponsors.

“Better days for bicycle riders are ahead, thanks to the efforts of Blackbelt Benefit Group and their partners,” Wilkerson said.

Montgomery Bike Club and Cosby Carmichael Inc. began the installation of six bike racks and one repair/air station. With a hand from Breanna Mitchell and members of the Jonathan Daniels Youth Pilgrimage the group began the installation at five key locations in downtown Selma: Bike racks by Play Selma, The Welcome Center, Gallery 905, Selma & Dallas County Public Library, Tin Man’s Studio and Dallas County Court House, with the repair/air station being installed at Art Revive’s Carneal Building

BBG member Carl Bowline,  volunteered for the work day and said ,“We are excited to offer this contribution to make Selma more accessible and bicycle friendly to both residents and those coming to see the sites and spend the night in our historic city.

The Montgomery Bicycle Club is” scheduled to host Selma to Montgomery Bike Ride in 2025.
