The Selma City Council’s Finance Committee met on Monday night.

City Council members present were: Council President Billy Young, Council members Troy Harvill, Sam Randolph, Christie Thomas, Jannie Thomas,  Lesia James and Atkin Jemison.

The Fiscal 2024 Budget Proposed by Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. was discussed. Perkins did not attend the meeting.

On the budget were raises to upper management that came out to $700,000.  Young and Randolph both believed the workers should get payraises instead.

Harvill, Chairperson of the Finance Committee, shared his opinion. Harvill added that there’s a $800,000 difference from Perkins’ budget of $22.6 million.

“There are ways we can make this budget work,” Harvill saiid.
