The 10th annual Rockin’ Rib-off produced a crowd of over 700 for a night of fun and music last Saturday night in a fundraising event to continue the recovery process from the January 12 tornado.
All day long, the citizens of Selma enjoyed food, games, and live music. Black Belt Benefit Group member Clay Carmichael said that the entire day was a success, thanks to the sponsors and the people of Selma.
“Thanks to our sponsors, teams, volunteers, and musicians, this may be the best participation we’ve ever had,” Carmichael said. “This shows that everyone can come together for the common good. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event on Saturday, June 1st, 2024!”

Fourteen different artists came out on two different stages to perform. The night was closed out Rollin’ in the Hay. People sat beside the StJames hotel in lawn chairs to enjoy the music as the sun went down. During the day, kids had a chance to play in the kid’s zone while the adults had an opportunity to try their hand at an AX throwing competition. During the Rib-off everyone was able to have all-you-can-eat ribs while they enjoyed a cold beverage during the hot day. Kona Ice gave the audience a much-needed snowcone option during the hot day as well. Mayor James Perkins Jr. made an appearance early during the day as did several of the City Councils to enjoy the food and the music.
