The Selma City Council and Mayor James Perkins Jr. are working toward a solution for citywide cameras.

Both sides discussed the cameras at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Council members present at the meeting were: City Council President Billy Young, council members Michael Johnson, Christie Thomas, Troy Harvill, Sam Randolph, Lesia James, Clay Carmichael and Jannie Thomas

The two sides agreed on the specifics and voted to RFP those changes. They spent time hammering out details.

The city council and Perkins agreed on a committee that will include: Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford, former police chief John Brock, former Selma Police Chief Robert Green, Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum and a Network Administrator to vote on cameras. The selection committee will do a pass-fail criteria.

An attorney will also be on the committee, but only for legal advice should the situation warrants it.

“After two years, we need to move this ball down the field,” Young said.
