Alabama A&M awards $1 million in scholarship money to local schools

Alabama A&M University dropped by Selma High School on March 1, awarding over $1 million in scholarship money to seniors at public schools in Dallas County.
Selma High, Dallas County High, Southside and Keith High each had students receive scholarships from Alabama A&M.
Selma High had the most as 24 seniors received scholarships, totaling $426,440.
Selma City Schools superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd said he is proud of his scholars and their drive for success.
“We are so absolutely thankful to Alabama A&M University for awarding over $456,000 to our hardworking, amazing scholars,” Byrd said. “This is a true testament of their dedication and commitment to their future endeavors! I’m sure this is just the start to all they will receive from the many institutions of higher education that they will be applying to.”
Keith’s Cornelius Williams received a scholarship in the amount of $28,000 from Alabama A&M. Williams was the only student from Keith to receive a scholarship.
Southside had nine students receive a scholarship with a grand total of $138,000.
Cedric Brown, Principal at Southside, was in attendance to see his students get their scholarships along with other parents and teachers from Southside.
Dallas County High received scholarships with a grand total of $148,000. Eight different students received scholarships for DCHS and Principal Erika Crum simply said the school was proud of those students.
“The Hornet Family is so proud of them and wishes them much success for the future,” Crum said.
