The Lady Senators scored in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI single from Kaylee Cornell.

As the game entered the late innings the Senators held a 6-4 lead in the fifth inning, but Pickens looked to make a big push in the top of the sixth. The Lady Pirates hit a long ball that went all the way to right center field. Shortstop Lelia Moore threw a rocket to catcher Lydia Smitherman as the runner was trying for an inside-the-park homerun. The throw reached home plate as the runner was called out at the plate. It was momentum boost that helped push Morgan Academy to victory.

“I think it was all just a team effort,” Moore said. “We all did really well. I just really love this team”

Moore talked about the play that she made in the sixth inning.

“I was kind of shaking in my boots when I threw that,” Moore joked.

Bond  recorded six strikeouts in the game, including the game ending strikeout.

“I really have to compete with the batter and just really spin the ball,” Bond said. “If I feel like a batter is behind or out in front, I have to work with the batter. I have to see what they don’t like and just place my pitches where I know they are not going to hit it.”

Morgan Academy had the bats going against Pickens Academy. Hadley Verhoff,Addison  Bond,Ally Wilkinson, Anna Logan Lee, Lelia Moore and Cornell all recorded two hits in the win.
