Meadowview Christian School eighth-grader Addie Fancher finished second in the Alabama Peace Officer Association’s essay contest.
Fancher earned a $200 prize for the essay, “Why I will say no to alcohol and drugs.” She accepted the check in front of family from Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum.
“I feel good finishing in second place, I didn’t expect to finish that high,” Fancher said.
Granthum, who’s Vice President of the Alabama Peace Officer’s Association, said no student in the South Region finished as high as Fancher did. She finished high among 500 students that competed. “This is a big deal, Addie Fancher competed against the bigger schools across the state,” Granthum said.
