The University of Alabama may not have won a national championship in football since 2020, but we feel that Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban is still the game’s best coach.

Saban and assistant coach Freddie Roach visited Southside High School on Thursday, speaking with Panthers head football coach/Athletic Director Charles Moody and Principal/Girls Basketball coach.

We all know why Saban was really at Southside: Panthers sophomore wide receiver Derick Smith has a scholarship offer by the Crimson Tide.

NCAA rules prohibited Saban from talking to Smith and other Panther athletes. Moody said Saban told him that he will visit Southside in the near future.

If Smith chooses Alabama, Saban will get a good kid taught by good men: his father, Moody, and Brown.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has done a great job leading the Bulldogs to consecutive national titles, but as long as Saban is at Alabama, we can never count the Crimson Tide out.  Seven national titles coached and won by Saban still have value.

We’re always glad to have Saban visit Selma and look forward to him coming back.
