Morgan Academy won the Middle School Scholar Bowl state championship last week.
Jack Bearden was the event’s high scorer. Ash Cox, Leighton Grace Bennett, Lil Yeager, Jace Buster, Thomas Clay Atchison, Parker Hewston and Patrick Johnson are the other team members.
The team beat the Donoho School, Houston Academy, Russell Christian, Lee Scott Academy and the Lakeside School en-route to winning the state championship.
Morgan Academy Director of Operation Karim Oaks, who served as Team Sponsor, said she was proud of the student’s hard work and dedication to winning the event.
“This group was a fun one to coach,” Oaks said. “They actually had the grit to come from behind in one match to win. All I had to do was tell them they were behind by one question, so ring in. And they did.”
Dr. Bryan Oliver, Morgan Academy Headmaster, said the students’ will and determination perfect exemplifies the school’s strong academic culture.
“I’m proud of our middle school Scholars Bowl team for winning the AISA state championship,” Oliver said. “This group of young men and women are the product of a great education at Morgan Academy, and are a true representation of our school. I also want to thank Karim Oaks for her hard work and dedication to our middle and high school teams.”
