Siegelman discussed several subjects during his speech, including the city suffering tornado damage.

“The tornado that hit Selma affected all of us across the state,  it caused us to help,” Siegelman said.

Siegelman also advised Selma and Dallas County residents on picking and supporting candidates for public office.

“Find the candidates you believe in and can trust,” Siegelman said. “Hold them accountable to their campaign promises and what made you go out and campaign for them.”

Siegelman praised the effort of Rep. Terri Sewell to keep pushing the Voting Rights Act.

Sewell, who was present at the breakfast, said that Selma would return stronger and better.

Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, who delivered the greetings, said the storm situation could’ve been worse.

“Selma should never run out of reasons for thanking God,” Nunn said. “We will rebuild, we will survive, we will thrive and we will be strong.”
