A representative from the Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee appeared at the Selma City Council meeting on Tuesday night.

Sam Walker addressed the city council and requested that they waive fees on certain city businesses to be used during the jubilee, which will be held during the first weekend in March.

Selma City Councilwoman Lesia James said the fees might get wiaved if the city council was treated with respect. They were asked to leave part of the area when Vice-President Kamala Harris arrived.

“The Selma City Council needs to be recognized, “ James said.

Attorney Faya Toure, who spoke at the city council meeting and part of the Jubilee committee, said they were  also dispected.

Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. said he didn’t get a photo opportunity with the Vice President like Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed did.

“I did not get my feelings hurt, Mayor got his picture taken with Vice President Kamala Harris, I wasn’t offended,” Perkins said. “Whenever the President and Vice President of the United States visit Selma, the Secret Service takes over.”
