A Selma woman died Thursday night after being shot several times by an unknown assailant.

Selma Police Captain Natasha Fowlkes said that Alvineshia Demontreyce Carter, 20, was killed at the 606 block of MLK Street around 8:50 p.m. Thursday evening. Carter’s murder is the 12th in Selma this year, and the second this week.

“The victim was struck multiple times in the right torso and in the neck,” Fowlkes said.

Fowlkes said that Selma Police Detectives are actively pursuing the case and no suspect has been identified at this time. The case remains under investigation.

This is the 15th murder of the year in Selma.
