Southside relied on its high-powered offense to pull away from Francis Marion on Homecoming.
Quarterback Roosevelt Towns III threw for five touchdown passes and ran for another score as Southside prevailed 64-40 on Friday night at Panthers Stadium.
The Panthers (5-3) have won four straight, overcoming a 1-3 start.
Towns threw three touchdown passes in the first half as the Panthers led 36-26 at halftime.
The senior threw scoring tosses of 27 yards to Derick Smith, a 48-yarder to Erick Smith and a 71-yarder to Deundre Gardner. Towns also ran for a 8-yard TD.
In the second half, Southside outscored the Rams 28-14.
Towns threw TD passes to twin brothers Derick Smith and Erick Smith.
Earnest Campbell ran for a TD and Derick Smith added a Pick-6.
Various Southside graduating classes over the years celebrated homecoming with severaltents outside the field, eating a delectable spread of BBQ, fish and assorted deserts listening to Classic R&B, Hip Hop and Blues Music before and after the game.
Erick Smith said it was important for Southside on homecoming.
“This win is for the Southside community,” Erick Smith. “We take pride in winning on homecoming.”
