The Alexis Hunter Scholarship recipient will be announced on April 30 at Selma University during a Stop the Violence Event.

Selma City Councilwoman Jannie Thomas former Selma City Council President Corey Bowie and Joann Hunter-Walker established the scholarship in name of Hunter, who was killed on Dec. 21, 2013.  Hunter-Walker is Hunter’s mother.

Thomas said the deadline for the scholarship application is April 25. Thomas also said that the requirements include:  writing an essay on how you will promote non-violence in your community, reside in Ward 7, have a 2.5 GPA.  The school transcript, essay must be attached to the application.
