The 20th annual Alabama Artists Roots and Wings will have its opening reception on Thursday night at Arts Revive.
The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. and is a showcase for talented artists in Selma and Dallas County, including AC Reeves, Tres Taylor, Bradford Brackin and Julian Helms.
This will be the first event for new Arts Revive President Ruth Talton, who’s excited about leading the organization.
“We have five foundational goals: to provide learning opportunities in the arts; to support local artists; to develop Selma as an arts destination; to create an arts culture district downtown; and, to become community builders,” Talton said.
“Every project that Arts Revive is involved with falls under one of those goals.”
The event is also the Opening Night for Members and Donors Recognization. Anyone wanting to join Arts Revive: $30 person, $50 couple.
“If you are not a member, you can join at the door,” Arts Revive Executive Director Becky Youngblood said.
Former Arts Revive President Rex Jones said he expects an outstanding event.
“This years Roots and Wings art show is one of the best yet,” Jones said.
“It’s a great show and we have some great Selma artists representing.’’
Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served at the event.
Birmingham Blues musician Elmora Spencer will perform at the event.
