Selma to Montgomery Relay and Bike Ride started in Selma Saturday morning

The annual Selma to Montgomery relay and bike ride began Saturday morning in Selma.

The 51-mile relay race is hosted by the Civil Rights Race Series and it honors the historic 1965 march led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. , leading to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Participants will meet at Pilcher-McBryde Drug Company, located on 101 Broad Street, to register for the race. The relay and bike ride started at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The race will end at the State Capitol in Montgomery.
