Mike William McDowell, 57, passed away at his home in Maurepas, Louisiana on January 31, 2022. He was born on March 21, 1964, to the late Richard and Jeanette McDowell.
He is survived by his sister, Jan (Larry) Justice and brother, Rickey (Laura) McDowell; nephews, John Justice and Trent (Hilary) McDowell; nieces Amy (Zeb) Ellison and Katie (Ben) Hogue; and eight great nieces and nephews.
Mike lived life to the fullest doing what he loved most, teaching people to water ski. He taught water skiing and orchestrated ski shows at Camp Wekeela in Maine, several Club Med resorts including the Bahamas, Sonora Bay, Cancun and Tahiti. His passion was barefoot skiing. He enjoyed skiing any warm day including this past Christmas Day. His infectious laugh and fun-loving spirit brought joy to those around him. He made lifelong friends with whom he visited often and they visited him, always going water-skiing.
He worked many years as a towboat captain, again making lifelong friends with those he worked with at Parker Towing and Crounse Corporation.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 7th at 1 p.m. at Church Street United Methodist Church, 214 Church Street, Selma, with Reverend Diane Everette officiating. Per his request his ashes will be scattered on the various rivers and waters he loved.
