City of Selma to host 2 day holiday event this weekend

The City of Selma is holding Christmas holiday events this weekend.
Selma’s “City of Lights” celebration kicks off with the Christmas Parade at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The Selma Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Information is partnering with the city for the parade.
From Washington Street, the parade will travel to Water Avenue proceed down Broad Street and end on Furniss Avenue.
After the parade, a number of activities will be held on Water Avenue and in Riverfront Park. The Christmas Tree Walk and Contest sponsored by the Family Resource Center at Phoenix Park on Water Avenue. Pictures and cocoa with Santa will begin in the park at 11 a.m.
At noon, the Battle of the Bands will rock the Riverfront Park amphitheater: Selma High School, Southside High School, Keith High School, and Dallas County bands. At Water Avenue, the Queen City Cruisers and Corvette Club will host a car show.
The Very Merry Tailgate and Contest in Riverfront Park beginning at noon. and ending after the SEC Championship Game game is over. In partnership with Walton Theater, food trucks and vendors will be set up in the park for all tailgaters.
The holiday schedule continues into Sunday, December 5, with a photo opportunity with the Grinch. Registration for Grinnin’ with the Grinch will begin at noon at Songs of Selma Park, at the corner of Broad Street and Water Avenue. Also beginning at noon, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Queen City Kale, and the St. James Hotel will host Brunch on Water and Storytime with Santa.
Carriage rides will be available for five dollars per person and holiday activities sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc can be enjoyed on Water Avenue beginning at 2 p.m.
The City of Selma Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Songs of Selma Park will begin at 5:30 p.m.
