The Dallas County Sheriff Office (DCSO) and Northside Baptiist Church teamed up for its annual Thanksgiving food drive.
The DCSO and Northside Baptist Church worked with Marion Bank, Selma Area Food Bank, Charles Ellis, Dave’s Market, ESA and VFW for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. Boxes were delivered to 30 different families by DCSO officers, who picked up boxes at Northside Baptist Church.
Families in Valley Grande, Mount Junction, Selma and Plantersville received food boxes that contained turkeys, flour, sugar, canned soup and fruits.
The program began when Granthum was sworn in as Sheriff nearly four years ago and he’s proud of that tradition.
“It’s an annual Thanksgiving tradition we’ve done the last four years,” Granthum said. “We’ve gone out on patrol and we see which families need food. Everybody thinks we’re doing a lot for them. But we get a lot more out of it than they do.”
Kathy Smith, a member of Northside Baptist Church and Women Mission Union (WMU), said it’s an honor to help people in the community.
“It is such a blessing to help others,” Smith said. “Sheriff Granthum gives us the names of people. We’re all doing this to spread God’s love.”
