James Rhoden Pritchard, Jr. passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021, following a brief illness. Jim was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on April 10, 1940, to James Rhoden and Claire Montgomery Pritchard.
Jim graduated from high school at St. Alban’s School in Washington, DC in 1959. He attended Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, and received his MBA from the University of Kentucky in 1965. He was a fan of UK basketball throughout his life. In 1964, he married Barbara Boston, whom he began dating during his years at Centre. Jim moved to Selma in 1992 and was actively involved in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and in various other roles. He was the administrator for the Clara Weaver Parrish Charitable Trust for 15 years and had a strong conviction about helping those in need in Dallas County. He was an avid artist, hunter, and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Boston Pritchard; children, Alice Montgomery Pritchard (Dana Bugl) of Bolton, CT, James Clair Pritchard (Christy) of Cornelius, North Carolina, Jennie Davis Pritchard of Selma, and Carrie Pritchard Bearden (Allen) of Selma; and grandchildren, Django and Piper Pritchard and Jack and Hatch Bearden. He is also survived by his sister, Katherine Pritchard Berry (John) of Arlington, Virginia, and a large loving family of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Wells Pritchard. Funeral services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the United Way of Selma-Dallas County or the Miller Childers Christian Outreach Alliance Food Pantry.
