The Southside High School Air Force Junior ROTC Department and Life South held a blood drive on Thursday at the school gymnasium.
Countless Southside faculty and students each gave blood during the four-hour session.
The theme was: “Blood is Life. Don’t run it out. Please give blood.”
Southside JROTC Instructor Col. Brook Rollins expressed the importance to give blood.
“It’s advantageous to give blood,” Rollins said. “I think it’s great to give blood. I’d like to see blood being donated on a regular basis.”
Life South Donor Services Manager Monik McGuire said blood drives can be great for communities.
“It’s important to give blood,” McGuire said. “When you give blood, you’re saving a life. It’s another way of giving back to the community.”
LifeSouth District Community Development Coordinator Melinda Hinds said last month the organization is grateful to work with Southside.
“We appreciate Southside’s willingness to pay it forward to their community by hosting a blood drive and saving lives on their school campus,” Hinds said.
Hinds added that local businesses in Selma and Dallas County are crucial to LifeSouth.
Dallas County sponsors LifeSouth blood drives at some of the local businesses such as Walmart in Selma,” Hinds said. “LifeSouth parks the blood mobile regularly at Walmart to allow the residents of Dallas County to give the gift of life.”
