Morgan Academy is the only Dallas County school ranked in the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) football poll.

The Senators enter the season ranked 10th in the AISA poll.

Morgan Academy is coming off a 8-3 season and berth in the AISA State Semifinals.

“I’m really glad our kids have been recognized as a preseason Top 10 team,” second-year coach Danny Raines said.

The Senators lost a lot of offensive firepower, including running back Holt Utsey, receiver Josh Brown and Chris Gardner, offensive linemen Kenny Nichols, Matthew Free and Clayton O’Shields.

Morgan Academy, however, returns a strong nucleus that includes quarterback Andrew Thomas, tight end Rhyne Williams,  linebacker Trey Jones and kicker Wade Mason.

Southside (6-5 last year) received votes in Class 3A. The Panthers return offensive firepower, including the pass and catch combination of quarterback Chris Thomas and receiver Tae Spears.
