A fifth-grader at Valley Grande Elementary School will compete in the Monster energy AMA Amateur National Motocross next week.
Collon Holbrook, 10, will race in the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Motocross Championship held at Hurricane Mills, Tennessee held between August 2-7.
Holbrook said that the COVID-19 pandemic did not affect his racing plans.
“Covid did not change anything for us, in fact it allowed more time to practice and race and allowed me to get faster and more competitive in my age group,” Holbrook said.
Holbrook races in the 10-11 65 limited class and rides a 65 cc Husqvarna.
Four years ago, Holbrook finished fourth overall in the 51 cc (4-6) Shaft Drive Limited class.
The entire Holbrook family goes on the road for Motocross events. Holbrook’s father, Chad, serves as his coach. Holbrook’s three other siblings also travel with him to events: Ragen Belcher, 13; Callen Holbrook, 9, and Cohen Holbrook, 5.
“I have watched my little boy turn into a mature young man who can handle adversity like no other kid his age,” Chad Holbrook said. “He faces pressure and seems to always rise to the occasion and get the job done.”
