Jackson and ALEA both said that Stubbs was arrested by U.S. Marshals- Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and SBI Agents at an apartment complex in Tuscaloosa.  He is being held on No Bond and charged with Capital Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, Capital Murder- Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling, and Attempted Murder. All three charges list Alabama Bureau of Investigation as the arresting agency.

“SBI Special Agents and other assisting investigators worked non-stop, throughout the night following up on tips, leads, and interviews,” ALEA said in a release.

The City of Selma has called a noon press conference to discuss the arrest, which Selma Mayor James Perkins and Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford reacted to Stubbs’ arrest.

“This was done right,” Perkins said. “The City of Selma and the Selma Police Department stepped aside to turn the investigation over the state. They did what was needed to be done. What’s next: the case will go over to the state and District Attorney’s office. You probably won’t hear a lot from the city.”

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson attended the press conference and said Stubbs will be arraigned Friday morning at 10 a.m. in the Dallas County Courthouse.

“It’s dumb killing a police officer,” Jackson said. “Whenever you kill a police officer, you will get these other law enforcement agencies and you will get caught.”

Jackson and Perkins said that the SBI is still investigating the shooting, which happened between 3:30 and 4 a.m. Tuesday morning at Selma Square Apartments. No reason was explained.

Moorer’s significant other was also injured during the shooting and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her identity was not revealed and authorities have not released any information on her current condition.  Moorer was going home on a dinner break when the shooting took place.

Stubbs was a star athlete at Selma High School and was The Selma Times-Journal offensive player of the year in 2020.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as new information is released by law enforcement officials.
