Sherena Braxton never set her sights to become the Valedictorian at Dallas County High School.
As gray clouds pumped through overcast skies, Braxton led the Hornets’ Class of 2021 on Martin Field on Thursday night in Plantersville.
Braxton, who plans to attend the University of Montevallo in the fall, said she focused on academics at Dallas County. She finished with a 4.1 GPA.
“When you go to school, you don’t think about being Valedictorian or the best senior,” Braxton said. “I’m surprised to be named Valedictorian, but I’m honored and grateful to finish as the top student.”
A future airline pilot may come out of the Dallas County Class of 2021 as Salutatorian Steven Do plans to major in Professional Flight at Auburn University. Do said it was an honor to attend Dallas County High.
“Being number two in the class means that my hard work paid off,” Do said. “I learned a lot from my classmates. We grew up together.”
Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum attended the graduation.
