Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Dallas County is quietly rising as a hotspot for high school basketball.

Keith High, Meadowview Christian School, Morgan Academy, Dallas County, Selma High, and Southside are battling the coronavirus to play basketball. Some schools allow fan attendance, others limit to parents only.

The Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) have taken notice of Dallas County hoops.

The Hornets and Lady Saints were ranked in last week’s ASWA Top 10 poll in their respective classifications. Keith also spent a week in the poll.

The Southside Lady Panthers could crack the Class 3A rankings, which will be released later in the week.

Morgan Academy was nominated for all three polls and could eventually crack the Top 10 if the Senators keep winning.

School Superintendents, Principals, headmasters, Director of Operations, head coaches, assistant coaches, players, parents, referees, team managers, book keepers and clock operators all deserve kudos for battling the virus to produce a basketball season.
