Darla M. Ensey Barton, 81, died at home unexpectedly January 5, 2021. She was born June 26, 1939, in Alpena, Michigan, the daughter of Emil Leon and Vernia (Gagnon) Szczukowski.
Darla received her high school diploma from Alpena High School on June 17, 1971. She married Jerry W. Ensey on November 20, 1956 and as a USAF spouse, traveled to Kansas, Japan, North Carolina, Florida, and Alabama. Upon arrival in Selma, in 1972 she began her career as a meat market manager at Big Bear and Calhoun Foods. She received numerous awards throughout her career and retired in December 2001. After retiring she became a pink lady volunteer at Vaughn Regional Hospital. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, dancing, painting, reading, doing puzzles, sending, and receiving correspondence through the mail. She was a member of Queen of Peace Church.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Griffin and a brother, Emil Edward Szczukowski.
Darla is survived by her daughters: Tina Henderson and husband, Dan, of Selma, Teresa Laramore and husband, David, of Ozark, and Jackie Patrick and husband, David, of Albertville. Grandchildren, Christopher (Tonya) Smith, Courtney (John) King, William (Alisha) Patrick, Darla (Jake) Day, Jessica Ensey-Laramore, and Matthew Ensey-Laramore; great-grandchildren, Jackson Patterson, Savannah Smith, Adrienne Patterson, Liam Day, Lily Day, Ensey-Fae Laramore; her loving sister, Beverly Jaeger of Alpena, Michigan, and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2 pm at Pineview Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m.on Friday at the funeral home.
