The Dallas County Commission approved a bid for the construction of a new roof for the Dallas County Board of Education building at Monday evening’s Dallas County Commission meeting.
District 4 Dallas County Commissioner Larry Nickles took a moment to address the three commissioner-elects that were present for Monday’s Meeting: Connel Town, District 1; Vivian Rogers, District 3; and Jan Justice, District 4.
Nickles opined the three incoming commissioners might be curious as to why the Dallas County Commission would vote to purchase a roof for the Dallas County Board of Education building.
Dallas County Probate Judge and Commission Chairman Jimmy Nunn explained that, per state law, a county commission must provide an office space for the county Board of Education.
“This roof is in bad condition,” said Nunn. “Putting [a new roof on the building] is really, really needed.”
According to Nunn, leaks in the existing roof have rendered a portion of the building unusable.
The bid for the new roof was awarded to Old South Construction Company for $62,960.
