Three Dallas County teams to compete in Area volleyball tournaments

The AHSAA Area Volleyball tournaments will be held this week at various sites.
Sipsey Valley is hosting the Area 7, Class 5A Tournament, which starts Wednesday.
Top-seeded Sipsey Valley will host Selma at 4 p.m.
The winner will face the Demopolis-Central-Tuscaloosa survivor in the tournament finals at 7 p.m.
Montevallo is hosting the Area 5, Class Tournament, which will be held Wednesday.
Dallas County faces top-seeded Montevallo at 3 p.m. The winner gets either Bibb County or West Blocton in the finals at 6 p.m.
The other tournaments involving Dallas County schools began Tuesday night.
Host and top seeded Hale County faces Greensboro in the Area 8, 3A tournament. Southside didn’t field a volleyball team this season and would’ve played the Lady Raiders in the semifinals.
Host and top seed University Charter School will face the Keith-Linden winner in the Area 5, Class 1A tournament finals.
The AHSAA altered the tournament format because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Area champions will host and advance to Sub-regional play, which will be held Friday and Saturday.
Class 1A will held on Friday. Class 5A will be played on Saturday.
The eight winners in each class from sub-regional play advance to super regionals Oct. 21-23.
Areas 1-8 play at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl Multiplex while areas 9-16 will play at Huntsville’s Von Braun Center.
