Kimberly Coleman Himes passed away on September 10, 2020 at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham after a brief battle with heart valve failure. Born on October 6, 1951, Kim was a lifelong resident of Sardis, Alabama, and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all aspects of nature in his beloved Dallas County home of 68 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Woodrow and Margaret McKinnon Himes. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kate Appel Himes (Sardis), his children Samuel Coleman Himes, and Kinnon Himes Fisher (Pete); two grandchildren, William Wilks Fisher and Charles Walker Fisher (all of Auburn); one sister, Margaret Anne Hain Beers (Sardis), and a host of nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Kim best knew him as a loving and kind man whose pride was the love of his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and anything that led him outdoors into nature. Kim was a passionate supporter of his grandsons’ athletics, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his boys. His friends and family will always remember Kim’s ability to spin a story with humor and heart, often holding his audience captive with the witty and often outrageous tales of his life.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at Old Live Oak Cemetery with Minister Tom McLemore, Houston Park Church of Christ presiding.
Honorary Pallbearers are his childhood friends from Sardis with whom he made lifelong bonds: Toby Traylor, Johnny Henry, Bob Culpepper, Blann Bell, John Lide, Llew Rollins, Robert (Hawkeye) Morrow, Butch Ousley, as well as David Griffin, Mark Lane, and Steve Lane.
