Teenager charged with murder in Wilcox County

A Wilcox County man died from gunshot wounds in a Selma Hospital over the Fourth of July weekend.
Markeesa Pettway was pronounced dead at Vaughan Regional Medical Center (VRMC) Sunday, according to Fourth Judicial District Attorney Michael Jackson.
Pettway, 22, was involved in an altercation with Steven Etheridge on July 5 at the Boykin community near Rosewood Lane and County Road 29. Pettway was shot several times with a handgun around 12:30 p.m. the day after the Fourth of July. Pettway was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Etheridge, 17, was arrested and charged with capital murder. Etheridge is currently locked in Prince Arnold Detention Center in Camden with no bond.
The Wilcox County Sheriff Office is investigating the murder.
Jackson is District Attorney in the Fourth Judicial District, which comprises of Dallas County, Perry County, Wilcox County and Bibb County.
