On May 4, Dallas County Deputy Michael Kiser was patrolling the area of Franklin Street and Primrose Terrace and noticed a white Chevrolet Silverado at a high speed. The vehicle continued across the street and into a shopping center parking lot still driving fast.

Kiser caught up to the suspect vehicle in front of the China Wok.. Kiser activated blue lights and siren and attempted to conduct a traffic stop as the vehicle turned onto Marie Foster St. out of the shopping center. The suspect vehicle failed to stop and ran the red light at Marie Foster St. and U.S. Hwy 14.

The suspect vehicle then turned onto the Selma Bypass and speeds reached 100 mph, Sergeant Brian. Gallion took over the pursuit at the Selma Bypass and County Road. 41. The suspect vehicle ran the red light at the Bypass and U.S. Highway 80 East and crossed over onto County Road. 41 and proceeded South at a high rate of speed.

The suspect vehicle turned off the headlights on County Rd. 41 in an attempt to lose law enforcement. The suspect turned West onto County Rd. 30 still at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle then left the roadway and wrecked at 7422 County Road. 30, striking a tree..

Kiser exited his vehicle and tried to open the driver side door of the suspect’s vehicle, but all the doors were locked. Kiser used an ASP baton to break out the passenger side window of the suspect’s vehicle and the rear window. Kiser noticed the suspect appeared knocked out. The suspect was removed from the vehicle by Kirk Slay of the ATF and placed onto the ground because the suspect vehicle was smoking profusely.

A loaded Hi-Point .9mm handgun was in plain sight on the driver’s side floor area of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was identified as Shawndarius Tremanya Tyus, a convicted felon and forbidden to possess a firearm.

Armstrong set Tyus’ preliminary hearing for Aug. 4.
