Sturdivant Hall’s 9th Annual Artisans Fair took place Saturday morning and, despite a downpour earlier in the day, a sizeable crowd came out to see what this year’s artisans had to offer.
“The crowd was very good,” said Sturdivant Hall Museum Director Mary Margaret Mims. “We saw a lot of umbrellas earlier, but it ended up being a beautiful day.”
The historic antebellum home was temporarily turned into a marketplace, hustling and bustling with vendors and shoppers alike.
“The vendors were pleased with the crowd and the crowds were pleased with the vendors,” said Mims. “They always bring new things for them to enjoy.”
All manner of art and crafts could be found amongst the tables set up on the first floor of Sturdivant Hall Saturday morning, including pottery, paintings, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and home goods.
Shoppers also had a chance to get a jump on their holiday meals with an assortment of baked goods, casseroles, jellies, jams and honey.
Mims said that seeing all of the handmade merchandise offered by local craftspeople each year was her favorite part of the event.
“I just love to see all of the local talent,” said Mims. “They never cease to amaze me with the stuff they bring in. And everything is handmade.”
