Though Thanksgiving hasn’t quite come and gone, it’s already time for the community to begin thinking about the City of Selma’s Annual Christmas Parade, which will be held this year on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.
The Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce is seeking participation in the annual holiday tradition.
Anyone interested in participating in this year’s parade must submit a registration form to the Christmas Parade Committee by Nov. 22, which means there are exactly 10 days to register without being charged a late fee.
For a registration to be fully completed, all fees must be paid and the insurance cards and driver’s licenses of all drivers must be provided.
Entry fees are $20 per float, $15 for walking units, $15 for motorized vehicle units, $10 for emergency vehicles, and $10 for bike units, which includes bicycles and motorcycles.
A late fee of $100 will be charged to all applicants after Nov. 22 and no forms will be accepted after Nov. 27.
The theme for this year’s parade is, “A Merry Christmas in Selma 2019”.
According to the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, the floats will be judged by individuals from the community who are not affiliated with the City of Selma or the Chamber of Commerce.
Judges award points to each float using a numbered criteria and ribbons will be presented to the first, second and third place winners.

Each year, the Christmas parade Committee works closely with the Selma Police Department (SPD) to ensure that the parade is safe for all those involved including spectators and participants.
