The Dallas County Board of education held their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday evening in the Dallas County Commissioners Chambers.
Board member Mamie Solomon was awarded an AASB School Board Member award during Superintendent Hattie Shelton’s Administrative report.
Chief School Financial Officer Sandra Purdie then delivered the financial report for the month of August.
According to Purdie, the finances for August are all on track.
The month of September’s finances have yet to be processed, due to the involvement of recent budget hearings.
Purdie reported that the financial statement for September would be delivered during November’s board meeting.
During the business portion of Tuesday’s meeting, Shelton brought up roofing issues that still need to be resolved at both Tipton-Durant Middle School and Keith Middle – High School.
According to Shelton the total cost to remedy the roofing problems at both school’s will cost an estimated $175,000.
“We have several roofs that we still need to repair,” said Shelton.
The board members unanimously approved Shelton’s request to move forward in working to ensure that the roofing issues at both schools are fixed.
Shelton also requested that the board approve a diesel fuel bid contract with Cougar Oil which the board, once again, unanimously approved.
Finally, Shelton requested that the board approve her recommendation to seek new maintenance trucks for Dallas County Schools after an estimate from Long Lewis Ford showed that the repairs to the current fleet would be too costly and that there was no guarantee the repairs would fix the problems.
“I’m asking that we are allowed to get quotes for the cost of three trucks,” said Shelton.
The final item discussed before Thursday’s meeting was adjourned was the selection of a delegate to attend an upcoming AASB Delegate Assembly in December.
Solomon was unanimously selected to attend.
