Wannabe Rescued’s Annual Bow Wow Benefit Auction took place on Friday evening at the George Evans Reception Center.

According to Wannabe Rescued Volunteer Jennifer Tolbert, this year’s auction was a great success.

“We had a great turnout and everyone had a great time,” she said.

Tolbert said that there were 13 live auction items and around 125 silent auction items.

All the money raised from Friday night’s event will go toward Wannabe Rescued’s mission of finding homes for the homeless animals of Selma and Dallas County.

“100 percent of the money goes toward helping the animals,” said Tolbert. “The whole community always comes together for this event in a very positive way.”

According to Tolbert, the money collected will pay about a month and a half of veterinary bills, covering food, shelter, medication, spaying and neutering.

Tolbert voiced that the annual auction is not only beneficial for the area’s homeless canines, but a great way to showcase local businesses, makers and artisans as well.

“It’s great for local businesses too,” she said.

Tolbert thanked all of the local businesses who donated items to be auctioned off at Friday’s event.

Tolbert expressed particular appreciation to Pepsi Bottling Co. of Selma and Bama Budweiser.

“It seems like they’re always there, providing drinks at every event,” she said. “They’re so supportive to, not just us, but the entire community.”
