Bessemer Academy spoiled Morgan Academy’s senior night.
Running back Jarvis Dancy had 100 yards receiving, 100 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns as the eighth-ranked Rebels prevailed 28-14 on Friday at Morgan Field.
The Rebels used big plays to grab a 7-0 first quarter lead and 14-0 advantage at intermission.
Quarterback PJ McDonald threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Mincy in the first quarter. Mincy added a 93-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
“Too many mistakes, too many missed tackles and too many missed opportunties, you can’t do that against a good football team,” Senators coach Josh Thacker said.
The Rebels delivered the knockout punch in the third quarter on two McDonald touchdown passes. McDonald threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Joshua McMillion. He added a 49-yard touchdown pass to Mincy.
The Senators avoided a shutout in the fourth quarter as the Rebels pleyed their reserves. Holt Utsey’s 95-yard fumble return for a touchdown and quarterback Andrew Thomas threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Josh Brown were the Senators’ points.
The Rebels (5-3 overall, 2-1 Region) improved their AISA state playoff position. Thacker said the Senators (3-5, 0-3) must beat Tuscaloosa Academy to stay alive and strange things happen.
Seniors Ethan Cargill, Will Ingram, Trent Huff, Tyler Elliott and Thomas Morris all played their final home game for the Senators.
