Dallas County had too much firepower for Southside.
The Lady Hornets swept Southside 25-19, 25-5 and 25-16 on Wednesday at Panthers Gymnasium.
Caitlyn Wilson led the Lady Hornets (7-8) with 22 service points.
Dallas County volleyball coach Stacey Buchanan said she’s pleased with the how the Lady Hornets are playing.
“Our theme is one team, one dream,” Buchanan said. “The girls are working together and doing great.”
Dallas County took control from the opening tip, holding off Southside in the first set.
In the second set, Dallas County jumped out to quick lead and never looked back.
Southside scored the first three points in the third set, but the Lady Hornets roared back to sweep the best-of-5 set.
The Lady Hornets are led by their senior class: Keyonce Furlow, LaTia Horton, Kelintha Mitchell and Karly Bennett. The foursome were recently honored in Plantersville.
“I prefer afternoon games,” Buchanan joked. “We got back around 11 Tuesday after playing at Sumter Central.”
Southside assistant football coach Darrell Walker filled in for volleyball coach Samantha Henry.
“I had a great time,” Walker said. “We started the match off good, but Dallas County overpowered us. But I’m proud of the girls’ effort. We’re getting ready for the playoffs.”
