Though the scorching temperatures Selma has experienced the past couple of weeks have made it difficult to think about Christmas, the holiday season will inevitably be here before many realize it.

This Christmas season, the Dallas County Family Resource Center will once again host its annual Riverwalk Christmas Tree Fundraiser.

According to Dallas County Family Resource Center Staff Member Amy Carmichael, the Fundraiser has been a big hit oin the Selma community the past two years.

2019 will mark the third year the group has hosted the event and even though temperatures are still in the 90s the group is already looking for sponsors.

Sponsors can purchase a tree to be decorated and compete to win one of three prizes people’s choice, agency favorite or social media in which the community will cast their votes on Facebook to determine the winner.

Carmichael added that everyone who has participated in the event in years past has had a lot of fun.

“The community has really come out to support this,” she said.

According to Carmichael, the idea for the fundraiser came to the group after seeing the city of Tuscaloosa’s Tinsel Trail.

The Family Resource Center was looking to start a fundraiser and no one in Selma was doing any thing like what was going on in Tuscaloosa, so the group decided to organize something similar here in Selma.

This year, the trees will be set up the week of Thanksgiving, Nov. 25-27, and sponsors will have the chance to decorate until Dec. 6, when a winner will be crowned at the Selma Christmas parade.
