Opal Virginia Barrett, age 87 of Valley Grande, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Choctaw County on January 26, 1932 to William Felix Broadhead and Winnie Wright Broadhead.

She was a childcare provider.

She is survived by her children; Cecile Barrett (Larry) Moore, Carla Barrett (Bubba) Lowe, and Rick (Missy) Barrett; grandchildren, Stacy Day, Tracy (Ryan) Putteet, David (Kacy) Moore, Stephanie (Jon) Turner, Stephanie (Curtis) Sanders, JR (Savannah) Lowe, Sean (Caitlyn) Barrett, Lyndzy (Samuel) Averette, Danielle (Josh) Sonnenburg, Taran (Brady) Patton, Joshua Barrett, and Andrew Barrett; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Melba (Quinnie) Donald, Blanche (Bud) Covington, and Arthur (Pennie) Broadhead; Sister-in-law, Luella Clements; and Brother-in-law, Billy Morgan.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cecil Barrett, Sr.; daughters, Rosa Abbott and Ida Barrett; parents, Felix and Winnie Broadhead; and Siblings, Leora Broadhead, Mannessah Broadhead, Naman Broadhead, Houston Broadhead, and Margie Destin.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Southern Care Hospice and Ms. Barrett’s private caregivers, Tamika Ellis, Cassandra Brackett and Linese Craig.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2 p.m. from the No Limit Church in Valley Grande with Rev. Ed Wilson and Rev. Sonny Guy officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Interment will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Sean Barrett, JR Lowe, Jon Turner, Ryan Putteet, Caleb Helms, and David Moore.

Flowers may be sent or memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
