Morgan Academy needed a tune-up before its season opener against Pike Liberal Arts on Friday night.

The seventh-ranked Senators pounded Fort Dale 28-0 last week in a jamboree held last weekend in Greenville.

Morgan Academy coach Josh Thacker said he was pleased with the Senators’ effort against the Eagles. Fort Dale traveled to face Morgan Academy in a jamboree last year.

“All in all, I felt it went well,” Thacker said. “We had some mental and physical errors that need to be cleaned up, but I felt like the effort was there.”

Thacker said the jamboree provided opportunities for the young Senators to get game experience.

“We got meaningful reps and plenty of things on  film, which was the ultimate goal,” Thacker said. “At the end of the day, we got out injury free with a great experience.”

The Senators are ranked seventh in AISA of the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) preseason poll,  but Thacker knows the rating is based on the Senators finishing 9-3 last year.

“Preseason polls come from the work of the previous year’s team,”  Thacker said. “Although we’re honored to have the respect of sports writers across the state. this team has yet to write its story.”
