On Thursday, July 25, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-AL, will host Project Realizing Everyone’s Ability to Develop Yourself (READY), an annual workforce initiative held as a prelude to her annual Job Fair, which is scheduled for August 8 at Wallace Community College – Selma (WCCS).

This year’s Project READY event is held in conjunction with the Selma Housing Authority and will take place from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the George Washington Carver Community Building on Martin Luther King Street in Selma.

The initiative is aimed at providing job seekers with “meaningful preparatory resources” in anticipation of Sewell’s Job Fair, which will give people the opportunity to meet face-to-face with prospective employers, according to a press release from Sewell’s office.

“I’ve always believed that economic opportunity begins with the dignity of a job,” Sewell said. “We all know how challenging the job application and interview process can be, which is why I want to give me constituents the tools necessary to compete for the best jobs available today.”

Through Project READY, job seekers will gain access to a variety of resources, including Alabama Joblink guides, resume writing tools, job seeker assistance, financial literacy information and more.

Further, Career Center personnel will be on hand to distribute information related to training and apprenticeship opportunities offered through Go Build Alabama, the Alabama Workforce Investment Act Training Providers and others.

Additionally, there will be information available to eligible veterans and seniors seeking employment.

“The aim of Project READY is to support job seekers across the Seventh Congressional District with practical tools like interview preparation and how to craft a resume,” Sewell said. “Project READY is designed to work in tandem with our Annual Job Fair, so that job seekers are prepared to take full advantage of available job opportunities.”
