The Strategic Selma Firearms Enforcement Task Force made its debut Wednesday.

Members of the group include officers in the Selma Police Department (SPD), Dallas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), Dallas County District Attorney Office and ATF. They spent part of Wednesday morning taking photos at the Edmund-Pettus Bridge.

Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier said the group will help reduce violent crime in Dallas County.

“I think the potential is unlimited,” Collier said. “Additionally, it is a force multiplier for our investigators, which should free up more for our personnel to focus on crime suppression and prevention.”

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said the new Task Force will be effective in Selma.

“They are having a lot of success taking these gang kingpins off the street,” Jackson said. “Selma and Dallas County is moving in the right direction in stamping out violent crime. Multiple agencies are getting involved with this Task Force.”

U.S. Attorney Richard W. Moore said the goal is to make the Queen City safe for its residents.

“Our local, state and federal law enforcement partners are working tirelessly with us to eradicate violent crime in Selma,” Moore said.
