Churches throughout the Selma-Dallas County area gathered at Craig Field on Sunday afternoon to celebrate Jesus Day.

Jesus Day is an annual day of unity in which churches of all denominations gather to celebrate faith and family.

“Jesus Day is about loving people,” said Pastor Stephen Smith of Bethel Springs Baptist Church in Safford. “It’s about coming together and loving your brother and loving your sister.”

Smith believes that the unity celebrated during Jesus Day is the key to changing the community for the better.

“When you know me and I know you it helps us understand one another, and when we understand one another we will see a great change in this community,” said Smith.

This year’s Jesus Day celebration featured live praise and worship music from Selma Church of God, inflatables and playground equipment for the many children in attendance and foods and drinks for everyone.

In addition to a number of church leaders, there were a number of notable community leaders there including Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn and Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum.
