Dallas County High School is the only local public school team that qualified for softball regionals.

The Lady Hornets qualified for the Class 4A Softball Regional with a 7-6 victory over Greensboro in the Area 6, 4A tournament this week.  Greensboro won the other two contests 14-4 and 20-9 to win the Area championship.

Dallas County will play in the East Regional next week at Choccolocco Park in Oxford.

Dallas County coach Stevie Creel said he’s proud of the Lady Hornets for finding a way into the postseason.

“It will be a great opportunity for the players to see and play against some of the best teams around,” Creel said. “Hopefully, this will motivate them to continue working and getting better. They have really begun to grow these last few weeks as a team and have been playing great.”

Creel adds the playoff berth can help the Lady Hornets develop down the road.

“The scoreboard may not show it, but their play does,” Creel said. “Being so young, I knew we would take some lumps this year, but the experience they are getting is going to pay off in the future.”

Pitcher Brooklyn Pouncey is the Lady Hornets’ ace, but Creel said Anna Grace Small, LaTia Horton and Nikki Beckjorden all have pitched this season.

Dallas County only loses two seniors from this year’s team.
