Morgan Academy three peats in AISA State Tennis

Morgan Academy captured the AISA State Tennis Championships for the third straight year.

Both Morgan Academy tennis teams easily swept past Tuscaloosa Academy to claim their third consecutive tennis titles.

Morgan Academy tennis coach Baxter Stinson said winning championships never get old and he enjoys coaching this group.

“I’m so proud of them,” Stinson said. “ThIs is a great group of kids. They’ve worked very hard. It’s awesome to win a third state title in a row.”

The Senators won all matches in Boys Singles: Mason Perkins (No. 1), Trevor Wilson (No. 2),
Belal Hammad (No. 3), Ed Williams (No. 4) and Taylor Jones (No. 5).

The Boys Doubles teams also took first-place: Trevor Wilson -Mason Perkins (No. 1) and Ed Williams- Taylor Jones (No. 2).

The Lady Senators took three of five singles titles: Maggie Youngblood (No. 3), Mary Ashlyn Pearce (No. 4), Hannah Lightfoot at (No. 5). Ellie Adams (No. 1) and Lilly Youngblood (No. 2) both finished second.  But the Lady Senators swept Girls doubles matches: Ellie Adams- Lilly Youngblood (No. 1) and Mary Ashlyn Pearce and Maggie Youngblood (No. 2).

Williams and Perkins, members of The Selma Times-Journal’s All-Dallas County football team, lead a group that has played together since the seventh grade.

“It’s a great group of players who’s played together for a long time,” Williams said. “I’ve really enjoyed playing with them.”

“It’s been a great run, I’m glad to go out on top,” Perkins said.

Adams and Lilly Youngblood played in their last tennis match at Morgan Academy. Both said memories will last with them forever.

“It’s sad to end my tennis career at Morgan Academy, but it’s been a great run,” Adams said.

“I’m sad that my career is over, but this group has left a great championship legacy behind,” Lilly Youngblood said.
